What are the winter skincare concerns to address before stepping out?

Winter weather can be harsh on the skin if there is no proper care. Cold weather can dry the skin and lead to flaking and irritation. An appropriate skin regime should be followed to protect the skin.

Do I really have to change all my products according to the season?

Yes, you would have to change the products according to the season. The environmental conditions of where you live can impact the way your skin behaves. So paying attention to the weather will affect what type of treatments it requires.

What is the best facial cleanser for the season? My skin is very sensitive and flakes out during winter.

Use a mild water/gel based cleanser during winter. Alcohol-based products can strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture and this can lead to dry and freakiness of the skin. It is better to use water or gel based formulations which will be milder and hydrate the skin.

Hands and feet need special care in winter, especially feet which tend to become dry and crack.

What active nourishing ingredients should I be looking for during winter?

In winter we tend to use a lot of moisturisers and it tends to block the pores so it is good to exfoliate once a week to remove the dry skin and dead cells that build up. Exfoliate with a mild scrub which will soften the skin and remove white and black heads. Handmade scrubs with honey and sugar or almond and milk will exfoliate as well as moisturise the skin.

My heels are cracking and it is getting worse with the season, help me.

Hands and feet need special care in winter, especially feet which tend to become dry and crack. For your feet apply ultra moisturising cream and wear cotton socks at night. Avoid very hot showers as it tends to evaporate the moisture and dry the skin. Always take luke warm showers and apply rich body lotion or cream to lock in the moisture.

Is it safe to suddenly switch to winter creams and switch back the normal products? Will it affect my skin?

No. Once the environmental conditions move from winter to normal conditions, your skin will adapt to the environmental conditions, hence product change is the must.

To buy winter skin products and how long to use them

Buy water or gel based cleansers which will help retain natural oils in the skin Use heavier creams or body lotions as the lighter lotion may not provide adequate moisture. Sunscreen is a must even in winter. A moisturising sunscreen with minimum SPF should be used.
