1. What inspired you to start Pickyourtrail, and how has the platform evolved to cater to honeymooners?
The idea for Pickyourtrail was sparked during a Euro trip, where I observed how rigid, pre-packaged tours often left travellers dissatisfied. This experience planted the vision to create a platform that empowers people to explore destinations at their own pace, in their own style, and based on their unique preferences. With this vision in mind, Pickyourtrail was conceived as an all-in-one travel planning solution that makes international travel seamless and personalised. Our mission is to make travel more meaningful, memorable, and hassle-free, enabling travellers to focus on creating unforgettable experiences.

Catering to honeymooners has been an integral part of our business since inception, as honeymoons are often seen as the perfect opportunity for indulgence—an ideal occasion to travel abroad and create a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Some of the most popular destinations in Thailand for Indian honeymooners include Phuket, Krabi, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui, each offering unique experiences tailored to romantic getaways:

These destinations stand out for their ability to cater to diverse preferences, combining natural beauty, cultural richness, and luxurious amenities, ensuring every couple finds their perfect honeymoon experience.

4. Are there any lesser-known Thai destinations or activities you would recommend to honeymooners for a unique experience?

For couples looking to explore off the beaten path, Thailand offers several lesser-known destinations and activities:

Lampang: Known for its horse-drawn carriages, scenic trails, and serene cultural landmarks like Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Perfect for couples who enjoy exploring charming towns.

Samut Prakan: Features unique attractions like the Ancient City Museum and crocodile farms. Its proximity to Bangkok makes it a convenient yet distinct experience.

Songkhla: Offers breathtaking natural beauty with beaches, forests, and folklore-rich attractions like Cat and Mouse Island.

Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai: Located near Phuket, these islands provide secluded beaches and luxury resorts for a private romantic retreat.

Sam Phan Bok (Grand Canyon of Thailand): Located in Ubon Ratchathani, this unique rock formation offers breathtaking views and an opportunity for romantic photography.

Phang Nga Bay: Embark on a kayaking adventure through hidden lagoons and limestone caves for a private and thrilling experience.

5. How does Pickyourtrail leverage technology to make the planning process seamless for Indian couples, especially for honeymoons and weddings?

At Pickyourtrail, we harness technology to deliver deeply personalised travel experiences, ensuring that every trip reflects the unique preferences and needs of our travellers. For Indian couples planning honeymoons or destination weddings, our platform offers seamless, end-to-end solutions. Using advanced algorithms and data-driven insights, we recommend cities and craft optimised travel routes based on user preferences and historical booking trends.

For example, if a user selects Paris, our system suggests well-connected and cost-effective destinations that complement the itinerary, adjusting in real-time for maximum convenience. Additionally, our real-time updates and integrated booking systems allow couples to plan every aspect of their journey—accommodations, activities, and more—with ease. This blend of personalization and efficiency ensures that couples can focus on creating lasting memories, while we handle the complexities of travel planning.

6. Have you noticed any changes in travel preferences or booking trends among Indian couples post-pandemic?

Post-covid we have seen Modern couples moving beyond traditional honeymoon destinations like the Maldives and Singapore, gravitating towards unique, offbeat locations that cater to their desire for personalised and memorable experiences. Destinations like Azerbaijan, Georgia, Langkawi, and Phú Quốc are gaining popularity, as are immersive activities such as staying in eco-lodges, wildlife safaris, or scenic road trips. This trend reflects a preference for authenticity, adventure, and sustainability, with couples seeking eco-friendly accommodations and experiences that align with their values.

Additionally, many are designing honeymoons around thematic experiences, such as culinary tours, yoga retreats, or adrenaline-filled adventures like scuba diving, hiking, or hot air balloon rides. Hyper-personalised options, like renting private villas, overwater bungalows, or unique stays in igloos or bespoke night dives, are becoming highly sought after.

7. How do you see the destination wedding and honeymoon industry evolving in the next 5-10 years, especially in the context of Thailand?

Honeymoons have evolved from quick romantic escapes with packed schedules into thoughtfully designed, immersive journeys. Couples now prioritise extended stays and curated experiences that align with their personal interests, allowing for deeper connections with their destination and a more meaningful travel experience.

Thailand has consistently been one of the top choices for Indian couples due to its proximity, cost-effectiveness, and lately its free visa. According to the TourismAuthority of Thailand, in first half of 2024 alone,  1.04 million Indians visited Thailand, with a significant percentage travelling for weddings and honeymoons. Bangkok and Phuket continue to dominate as wedding hubs, while honeymooners lean towards Krabi and Koh Samui. The visa waiver has also elevated Indian tourists to a prime market segment for Thailand. Average spending per trip increased to 40,000 baht in 2024, with travel operators anticipating a record-breaking 2.4 million Indian visitors by the end of the year—a figure surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

In the coming years, we believe there will be a rise in offbeat locations like Songkhla, Lampang, and Koh Lanta among Indian honeymooners, offering serene and unique backdrops for weddings. In 2023, Pickyourtrail reported a 20% increase in couples choosing lesser-known islands for private celebrations, driven by the need for exclusivity and intimate experiences and there are emerging trends like eco-conscious weddings in Chiang Mai’s lush resorts and underwater ceremonies in Koh Tao that are likely to grow by 15-20% annually. Apart from this Thailand’s luxury wedding market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% from 2024-2029, fueled by increasing disposable incomes and Thailand’s ability to accommodate culturally rich Indian weddings.

8. How is social media influencing honeymoon and wedding trends, and how does Pickyourtrail tap into that?

The rise of social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest has reshaped how young couples envision their honeymoons, turning travel into a visually aspirational experience. These platforms offer endless inspiration, showcasing stunning landscapes, unique cultural experiences, and luxury accommodations that set new benchmarks for travel expectations. As a result, many couples now curate their trips to include “Instagram-worthy” moments, opting for exotic destinations and curated experiences that align with trending aesthetics, redefining modern honeymoon trends. Social media has also shifted the focus towards “experience-oriented” travel over traditional sightseeing. From immersive cultural activities to adventure sports, couples now want memorable moments they can share online.

Social media influencers and travel bloggers also play a pivotal role in popularising specific locations or activities among young couples. This trend drives demand for novelty, exclusivity, and personalization, as couples increasingly seek destinations and activities that resonate with their unique personalities and styles. At Pickyourtrail we actively observe social media travel trends and people’s responses to them, leveraging these insights to craft customizable itineraries tailored to the visually aspirational experiences couples seek.

9. What advice would you give Indian couples considering Thailand as their wedding destination for the first time?

For Indian couples considering Thailand as their wedding destination for the first time, here’s some key advice to ensure a seamless and memorable experience:

Pick the Perfect Location: Thailand offers diverse backdrops to match different wedding styles. Choose Phuket or Krabi for breathtaking sunsets and luxurious beachfront resorts. Chiang Mai’s serene temples and lush settings are ideal for intimate ceremonies, while islands like Koh Samui or Koh Yao Yai offer exclusive venues for a private celebration.

Understand Legalities: Managing legal formalities can be complex. For simplicity, opt for a symbolic wedding ceremony in Thailand and complete the legal requirements in India. This approach ensures less hassle while still experiencing the charm of a Thai wedding. Platforms like Pickyourtrail can assist with local vendors and processes.

Choose the Right Season: Timing is crucial for an outdoor wedding. The ideal season in Thailand is between November and February, with pleasant weather and minimal rain. Avoid the monsoon months (July to October) to sidestep unpredictable conditions.

Plan Travel Smoothly: Coordinated travel arrangements are essential for a destination wedding. Book flights early to secure group discounts, and streamline accommodations for your guests. Using services like Pickyourtrail can make organizing transportation and stays stress-free for everyone involved.

With expert insights from Hari Ganapathy, it’s clear that the platform’s commitment to customization, convenience, and attention to detail ensures that every couple’s journey is as special as the occasion they are celebrating. As travel preferences evolve, Pickyourtrail continues to stay ahead of the curve, creating seamless and meaningful experiences that allow couples to explore Thailand in ways that align perfectly with their dreams. Whether it’s a romantic getaway or a grand wedding, Thailand remains a timeless destination—and with Pickyourtrail, it’s never been more accessible or extraordinary.
