Flower Power: Top 5 Floral Decor Trends of the Season

Floral decor trends

Gerard De Nerval once said, “Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature”. Every flower also has a different meaning. “A rose for you is my passionate love. A lily for you is my pure love. A daisy for you is my true love, A carnation for you is my sweet love.” Flowers also play a big part in events. The use of flowers indicates celebrations, happiness, success and abundance. The sky’s the limit so you get to choose how you want to make flowers the most important piece of your wedding. A cascading bouquet? A neutral hue? A flower crown? A new pastel? Here are some of the most innovative floral decor trends we have seen this year.

1.Take on Textures
Wedding trends are often inspired by fashion and interior design trends. Textures and layers are currently what’s booming in those creative fields and it’s no surprise that a take on texture has made its way into weddings as well. It adds yet another dimension to colour and a play of multiple textures creates variety, diversity and eccentricity. The bride of 2022 is said to be ‘The Experimental Bride’ who uses dried flowers, lots of greenery, mesh vases and an array of blooms to paint her free-spirited artwork.

2. Over-the-top floral installation
From grand entrances to statement and ceremony arches, flowers are taking over decor. Flowers are used to create bold centrepieces such as hanging flower ceilings, chandeliers, arches, cakes, walls, aisles etc. A rather recent set-up is ‘The Flower Bar’ – An interactive activity for guests to make a crown or a bouquet with you guessed it, flowers. Arrange flowers along with floral tape, mesh, paper, scissors and any other artsy materials for your guests to unleash their aesthetic eye.

3. Sustainability
“Use what you have” is a principle followed by couples of 2022 without missing out on an appealing presentation. Sustainability doesn’t have to mean not keeping flowers at all but rather sourcing and utilising those flowers in a way that’s not detrimental to the environment. Many couples are opting for organic flowers, seasonal foliage and native flora and fauna. A popular choice seems to be silk flowers and dried flowers. There is also a big movement going on in the industry right now to avoid floral foam.

4. Bright and Bold
Just as how Indian weddings are loud, energetic and out there, a striking colour combination achieves the same mood. Bold selections in flowers never cease to fail the public. This trend made its comeback last year and it doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon. Couples are opting for more vibrant conspicuous colours like reds, oranges, pinks and purples. A bride choosing a dramatic colour palette is a bride making a floral statement.

5. Floral Keepsakes
A person may take photos, videos, ornaments etc to remember their memorable day however, this year has the addition of a new category–flowers. People are preserving their bouquets and flowers as a keepsake. This may include drying the flower, using resin, making a bookmark, sealing it etc. This is rather an ingenious idea as you’re taking something which was very much present on that day and maintaining it to withstand time.
