From Kathal Biriyani to Elaneer Payasam: A Grand Feast at Vignesh-Nayanthara’s Wedding

The lovely couple of Kollywood, director Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara got married in a private ceremony in the presence of their close friends and family. People across media platforms are congratulating the couple on their wedding.

The picture of the wedding menu has been going around on social media. It features a floral theme and looks oh so dreamy and aesthetic !

The Wedding Menu

The menu seems to consist of pure vegetarian dishes with their roots in Kerala. The one dish that catches our attention is Kathal Biriyani (Jackfruit Biriyani). Kathal biriyani is a dum biriyani made with raw unripe Jackfruit. This dish is quite popular among vegetarian and vegan wedding dishes as the raw jackfruit when cooked has a soft meaty texture. Unripe jackfruit is also called vegetarian meat!

Kai Porichathu, also known as Unnakai, is a popular dessert from the Malabar region. It is made from plantain and is often served as a sweet at weddings and other festivals. The mashed plantain puree is used as a dough and made into patties that are stuffed with sweetened beaten egg, coconut, nuts, raisins, and cardamom. This patty is then deep-fried in oil and is also served with sago-based white sauce.

(M)icken Chettinad curry, a mock meat curry, is an interesting dish where the curry is made with seitan. Seiten is a plant-based meat substitute made out of wheat gluten. This seiten is used as a substitute for the meat in Chettinad meat curry. Chettinad cuisines are spicy and flavourful with freshly roasted masala and spice powders.

The menu also has ponni rice, avviyal, mor kuzhambu, paneer curry, and paruppu curry along with some vegetable sides such as Chena kezhangu fry, Kalan milagu varuval, and carrot and beans fry. Sambhar rice, curd rice, garlic pepper rasam along with condiments like raita, vathal, and appalam (fryums) were provided. Along with Kai porichathu, the menu also serves desserts like badam halwa and elaneer payasam. The venue also has an ice cream cart.
