Cleansing of the skin assumes importance, in order to get rid of the impurities that are deposited on the skin. Night time cleansing is an absolute must, especially for us city dwellers. The chemical pollutants in urban air, along with dirt and grime are potent skin irritants. Make up should also be removed at night. Apart from cleansing the skin twice a day, it should be wiped and refreshed with a rose based skin tonic.
Chilled rose water by itself can also be used. Face masks and scrubs also help, by deep pore cleansing. They remove dead cells and also make the skin brighter and more youthful. Daily soak cotton wool pads in chilled rose water and use them over the eyes as eye pads.
Lie down and relax for fifteen minutes. This really helps to remove fatigue and brightens the eyes. For a home cleanser, take half a cup of milk and add five drops of any vegetable oil (til, olive or sunflower oil). Put this in a bottle and shake well. Apply it on the skin using cotton wool and then wipe off with moist cotton wool.
Keep left-over mixture in the fridge. To moisturize, take 100 ml rose water and add one teaspoon pure glycerin. Keep in the fridge in an airtight bottle. This suits all skin types. To exfoliate, take two tablespoons oats and add one tablespoon curd and pinch of turmeric. Mix together and apply on the face. After 15 minutes, rub gently on face and then wash off with water.
