Launched by the gorgeous Sushmita Sen, who spoke exclusively with Farvi Wadhwa on the changing trends of the fashion industry and evolvement of watches as a fashion accessory and a wedding gifting option.
How has your sense of style evolved over the years?
I think style, like all other aspects of your life, is ever changing! So one thing works today and another thing works tomorrow depending on your mood, your state of evolution and your experiences. One thing that’s been a constant for me over the last decade I’d say is comfort. Everything else comes second, because if you’re not comfortable it shows. And that to me is not stylish.
From Camay to Nebula, how has your journey of brand endorsements been like?
I like to look at everything in my life as a celebration. have a very special story to share, actually. My father before he named me Sushmita gave me a pet name, something Bengalis often do – Tee-tan, which is spelled exactly as Titan and means exactly what Titan means – something important and powerful and courageous. And so my father wanted that for me and named me that, so one of the earlier gifts I got was a Titan watch, from my father. Launching this collection from Nebula, a beautiful brand of 18 k gold watches that resonates with authenticity and timeless elegance completes that journey for me.
Once a necessity, the role of watches has changed tremendously, how would you define this change in trend, in terms of watches. See, I have never really followed trends and I have always loved watches, especially those with big dials. For me, that’s also very empowering as a woman. And I’m somebody who doesn’t like to dress up with a lot of different accessories in my personal life, unless I’m doing a film. I like it simple. So when you have a watch that gives you all that and makes sure you’re always on time, I think that’s it.
How do you incorporate watches into your fashion choices?
I love watches with big dials. For me, that’s also very empowering as a woman. And I’m somebody who doesn’t like to dress up with a lot of different accessories in my personal life, unless I’m doing a film. I like it simple. So when you have a watch that gives you all that and makes sure you’re always on time, I think that’s it.
Bridal Watches and Weddings had you ever imagined this as a talk point?
You know that’s what’s beautiful about Nebula. It’s a range of 18K gold watches embellished with precious stones. Also I have to tell you this, a lot of the gifts that I’ve given to all age groups, starting from kids to my parents are watches. And they kind of know it now because I always write the same note. “Your time has come”. And then I gave it so I think they make great watches. Yes, it’s a great gift, for weddings or even otherwise.
Your favourite wristwear from the brand. How would you style it?
Today I’m wearing an Art Deco Automatic watch. It’s bold and stunning, and I would personally want to wear it with a business suit that would have the vibe of being extremely empowered and like ‘I mean business and I’m always on time’. It’s my favourite piece.
